ONE of the Bolton area's "highest" schools has received lofty praise from government inspectors.
An OFSTED report described Edgworth CE Methodist Primary School, on the edge of the moors, as a happy place that provides good quality education within a caring, supportive and enthusiastic environment.
The positive ethos of the school was amply demonstrated by the friendly and natural way in which pupils and staff welcomed visitors.
Provision for pupils' spiritual, moral and social development was very good. Moral development was "very well promoted" and the school provided a broad and balanced curriculum with very good long and medium-term planning.
The quality of teaching was frequently good and the headteacher led by example, ensuring staff were aware of the high standards expected.
Lessons were well planned, teachers' knowledge, skills and understanding were secure and pupils were challenged by interesting tasks.
Chairman of governors, the Rev John Butterfield, said: "We are all delighted with this report. To help maintain our high standards, we will be following the Inspector's recommendations to make our schemes of work more school specific and improve the pace of some lessons."
