SIR: We write to you with some concern regarding the planning application.for an Indian rstaurant at Chapeltwon Road, Bromley Cross, adjacent to Turton School.
As residents living within a half mile radius of the proposed restaurant we naturally have to pass through this area each and every day.
On many, many occasions, in fact, every week we see evidence of youngsters drinking within the immediate location. In fact, the bus shelter which is 100 yds or so from the building is regularly frequented by teenagers with cans of beer and lager etc.
It would seem to us that an area which is totally deprived of youth services is desperately in need of a facility which would be of benefit to the youth of the area and this building which is adjacent to Turton School would be ideal as a youth centre.
In this day and age when we are trying to prevent unrest on our streets, it is beyond comprehension that the local authority should even consider letting this building be used for restaurant purposes, when there are already literally dozens of restaurants and pubs that serve food within easy access of Bromley Cross and surrounding districts.
We implore and beg that the local authority consider the youth of Bromley Cross before allowing yet another eating place to be located within the area.
