SIR: How dare your political editor say Tory candidate Paul Carter faces a hopeless task? (BEN: April 22) And what a cheek to say Mr Carter knows that standing in this election is a training scheme for becoming an MP later.
Since being selected as the Conservative Party candidate, Paul Carter has worked tirelessly in Bolton. You should know, because you have reported his campaigns against the closure of libraries in New Bury and Great Lever, against joy riders along Plodder Lane, against low standards in education and against the lack of consultation which led to the siting of a psychiatric nursing home next to a school in Little Lever.
The Labour Party should watch out. Paul Carter is well known in Bolton, and do not forget back in the 1992 election, it was your newspaper which reported Bolton South West as a marginal constituency.
I would urge you to get your facts right in the future.
Dorothy B Waters,
Winifred Road, Bolton.
