SIR: I would like to correct E Smith (BEN: April 21). It is Labour who intend to undo all our ancestors have fought and died for, by making no secret that they intend to hand this country to German control without a drop of blood being shed. Our ancestors, who gave their lives in the two wars, must be turning in their graves!
I can only think that M/s Smith is too young to remember the last Labour government. I well remember Labour became totally incapable of governing and handed the government of the country to the trade unions, with the results of a three-day working week because of power strikes. No street lights, no power to cook meals, no televisions or radios working. Rubbish and filth piling up in the streets because dustbins were not being emptied. Rats and mice breeding. Worst of all, dead human bodies being stockpiled all over the country because they couldn't be buried.
We had almost become a Third World country until the Tories rescued us from this mess.
A repeat of this is what a Labour vote will mean. The unions are already flexing their muscles at the prospect. Blair will deny it. He'll say anything to get a few votes. But listen to his lackeys: the appalling Prescott, Brown, Straw etc. They make no secret of where their hopes lie.
