SIR: May I bring to your notice the headline 'How we have been betrayed by the Tories', published on the leaflet distributed by Bolton West Labour Party.

As a senior citizen I know I have been betrayed by ALL politicians. During the present election campaign we are constantly being asked to put our trust in their policies. I have to say most strongly I do not trust any of them. I expect politicians to get their priorities right and not evade the responsibilities they have incurred.

I have a desire for justice and expect pledges to be honoured. All kinds of promises are made to the electorate during General Elections, only to be broken once success has been attained, by men and women wanting power. That power in the hands of past politicians sent millions of people to their untimely death during two horrendous wars. They made a pledge to make a better life for future generations of these islands. As a tribute to those people who paid the ultimate sacrifice, I ask the politicians to honour their memory be keeping their promises to make a better quality of life for us in our twilight years.

As a final comment, we the older senior citizens of this country created the wealth and freedom which the present generation take for granted; for that we have been betrayed by empty promises from all political parties. I believe there is no such thing as social justice and compassion.

Mrs B Wood,

Devonshire Road, Bolton.
