SIR: I would like to place on record my utter disappointment at the way the 'removal of the centre spot' was carried out at last Friday's historic game at Burnden Park.
The point I am referring to, was when the centre spot was lifted out of the pitch. At this stage it would have seemed more appropriate and much more fitting with the sentiment it was supposed to portray, to place the turf either in an awaiting box of some description or even a 'platter'. Instead it was forcibly crammed into two Reebok plastic carrier bags. This I felt was most embarrassing and marred what was otherwise a very sentimental and emotional evening for all those present.
Is it just me or did anyone else feel this was badly done?
