SIR: How do I put into words the emotions and achievements of the amazing 'Superwhites' on Friday night? I got into the disabled area at around 6.40pm to savour the atmosphere of what was to be happiness/sadness/pleasure and pride.
The whole evening was superb, seeing the stars of the past and the disaster commemoration but another emotion was watching the lads warm up for the last time at Burnden. It looked like it might get spoilt a bit when Charlton scored, but such is the strength and dominance of Wanderers that you felt we'd pull it back.
Big Ged's goal was a cracker but who should be there at the end to score the last goal at Burnden? 'Super John' - you couldn't write a script any better! It seemed fitting that John should score the last ever goal at Burnden.
I must admit there was a tear or two in my eyes as we waited for the presentation of the championship. It hit you that this was the last glorious moment to happen in the history of this stadium. The befitting moment was for Kenneth Wolstenholme to say that infamous line: "They think it's all over - it Is now!" Burnden Park, you may be gone but you'll NEVER be forgotten, you've given me so many happy times.
