A MAN working at a busy Bolton road junction suffered a suspected fractured neck when he was in an accident with a Ford Transit van.
John Higgins, 57, of Hattersley, Cheshire had been working on Higher Bridge Street, close to its junction with Blackburn Road and Halliwell Road, yesterday afternoon when the accident happened.
Paramedics treated Mr Higgins on the scene.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where this morning his condition was described as "serious but stable".
Van driver John McNeeny, 45, of Kinross Drive, Bolton, has been bailed to appear at Bolton Magistrates Court charged with several alleged driving offences.
Bolton police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, to contact the Bolton Traffic Unit on 0161 872 5050.
