CHORLEY was caught up in the chaos of the IRA bomb threat which forced the closure of around 25 miles of the M6 last Friday.

The motorway was shut between junction 25 Wigan and junction 29 Preston for more than six hours.

It brought misery for drivers who struggled through morning rush hour traffic to get to their destinations.

Roads were coned off at the junction of the A49 and Park Hall Road and Langton Brow in Heskin.

Police presence was heightened across the region with riot vans, motorbikes, a helicopter and even the bomb squad in action.

Meanwhile, honeymoon couple David and Fiona Hilman, of Somerset, had a free day out at Camelot theme park, Charnock Richard.

Following a break in the Lake District, they were staying at the Forte Travel Lodge before heading home. The park let in stranded staff and customers at the service station and hotel free.

MP John Major was rumoured to be visiting Shaw Hill Golf Club, Chorley, following a trip to Bolton Wanderers new stadium in Horwich. He had to cancel a trip to a Longridge primary school and his wife Norma stepped in.
