SIR: I read recently in the BEN a report on Turton High School. I quote "school's caring ethos and orderly community".
Well this doesn't apply to the amounts of rubbish and litter which cover most of the school grounds, including the footpath and hedgerow from Lords Stile Lane.
This evening I took a short cut across the fields from the railway station, and the litter has to be seen to be believed, all around the tennis courts.
I have written twice this year to the Education Department regarding this matter, two letters back in short passing the buck.
The whole area is scruffy and it's about time someone got their act together and made an effort. Under the 1990 Environmental Act, action can be taken in a Magistrates Court against any authority which fails to keep up certain standards on areas owned by them.
Educational institutions come under this act.
