MOTORISTS have been warned that roads will be disrupted during the Bank Holiday weekend as top class cyclists race through Bolton.

Three stages of the Tour of Lancashire are scheduled to speed along local routes.

On Friday, stage one takes in the East Lancs Road.

Competitors are due to hit the A580 in Worsley shortly after 6.30pm; then on through Leigh at the Greyhound Roundabout and on the A574 to Glazebury. Later the race runs along the A573 at Golborne through Abram and Bickershaw and out of Leigh on Atherleigh Way before racing on towards Salford.

On Saturday, stage two begins from Victoria Square in Bolton at 10am. Riders will travel around the Market Place onto Bow Street and head for Bury on the A573 and A58 Bolton/Bury Road. Near Bury town centre the cyclists will follow the A55 and then A56 past the cenotaph towards Blackford Bridge. Stage Five of the race on Bank Holiday Monday begins at 10am at the Manchester Velodrome. Riders will head out of Salford along the A6 at Worsley under the M62 motorway bridge.

The race continues along the A6 to Little Hulton and then towards Westhoughton at about 10.30am.

At the White Horse Tavern they will turn into Bolton Road and then through Chew Moor and onto Junction Road West and Beaumont Road.

Cyclists will then follow the ring road to Moss Bank Park, turning left at Tonge Moor towards Bradshaw Road at about 11am.

The route then follows the A676 to Holcombe Brook and through Ramsbottom before riders head towards Heywood.
