BURY are ready to bank on the best home form in the country to put the Championship gloss on their incredible back-to-back promotion success.
The Shakers go into their final fixture at home to mid-table Millwall tomorrow knowing victory should clinch the Division Two title and a £25,000 bonus.
But their fans will have one eye on events 200 miles away at Luton, where near-neighbours Stockport County will be out to pip them at the post.
Both clubs, level on 81 points and with Bury holding a two-goal advantage, go into their final games content in the knowledge that they will be pitting their wits against the likes of Manchester City, Birmingham and QPR next season.
But they are equally determined to finish the season as Champions.
Bury have the edge with home advantage and they will be driven on by manager Stan Ternent, who has hoisted his team from the depths of Division Three to successive promotions in just 19 months and who now wants to see some silverware for his and his team's efforts.
Ternent, one of the game's unsung but immensely-respected managers, was relaxed enough earlier in the week to joke about a friendly golf challenge with Stockport boss Dave Jones to decide the destination of the title.
But he will be as serious as ever when he sends his players out at Gigg Lane, where they are unbeaten in 22 league games this season with 17 wins and five draws and having conceded just seven goals.
"The champagne will be out anyway because we are promoted," Ternent said today, "But it will be better if we have a cup to put it in.
"And I don't see why we shouldn't get the win if we can play the way we have been doing. We might have home advantage but I think in one-off games like this you start on a level playing field."
Bury have a number of fitness worries but should be in a position to name the side that clinched promotion with a scoreless draw at Watford.
