A WOMAN had a lucky escape when her car careered out of control and ploughed into a farmer's field after the engine caught fire early today.
Louise Pitts drove the Vauxhall Carlton car through a fence after smoke started pouring from the engine on the M61.
Louise, of Farmley Close, Ilkley, jumped out of the car and ran across the field as flames engulfed the vehicle. She was not injured.
Firefighters were called to the scene, near the junction with the East Lancs Road, but the car was extensively damaged.
