SATURDAY turned out to be an Aussie revival day in more ways than one.
While Mark Taylor was confounding his critics at Edgbaston with a century fightback against England, his fellow countrymen were also making a mark on the Bolton League.
And the new breed of Aussies look set for a promising future - just as Taylor did during his pro days with Greenmount in 1988.
The honours on Saturday went to two players playing their first season in England.
Sixteen years old Matthew Bode from Adelaide dominated Tonge's win at Eagley with bowling figures of 6-36 and a bowling return of 77 not out, a performance described by cricket manager Ray Eccleshare as 'outstanding.'
And at Farnworth there were more fireworks as Tim Hooper from Melbourne hit an unbeaten 139 for a Farnworth side that is usually thankful to another Aussie, Brad Hodge for most of its runs.
Richard Chee Quee should also have been a century-maker for Greenmount but he was run out on 92 while in the same match Little Lever's Jason Voros collected four wickets for 70.
