d=2,5 f=Zapf Dingbats s%90 oSIR: It's about time someone did something about these illegal wheelclampers.
My husband and myself were the targets of one particular company around two years ago. At the time, my husband, who is registered disabled, was waiting for confirmation of his orange badge, and a motability vehicle so technically he was just an ordinary driver. We drove onto some land and parked while my husband went to get directions. No sooner had my husband walked out of the gate, than a young man carrying a yellow wheelclamp approached our vehicle and demanded I move it or he would clamp it. I can't drive, and the vehicle we were using was an ex-Army land rover, so even if I could drive, it would have been difficult for me to move due to its weight. I was informed we would have to pay £50 before it was removed and for each day it was in their possession, there would be an astronomical fee. We are both on income support, and there was no way we could find £50.
I then got out of the vehicle, opened the back door and got my son (who at the time was about 12 months old) and went to find my husband who had by this time been gone a little over five minutes. When he saw my son, the clamper didn't know what to do. But he said it was too late, he had already clamped it. When my husband returned, the clamper practically made fun of our circumstances. He put us through to his boss who was downright arrogant and very insulting and he demanded the money or else.
In the end, we had to give him the money as we relied on the vehicle, but it was all we had for the week. So for the entire week, we had to feed ourselves and our child on practically nothing.
These people need to be stopped. The sooner they are stopped the better for all concerned.
