MEMBERS of Farnworth AODS were triple winners in the prestigious Manchester Musical Awards held at the Lancastrian Hall, Swinton.

The Awards, modelled on the BAFTA ceremonies, cover a large area including Crewe, Knutsford, Altrincham, Wilmslow, Bolton and Bury.

They were instigated by the late Frank Lee White and provide a vehicle for societies who do not present non-musical drama and are, therefore, not eligible for adjudication in the Greater Manchester Drama Festival.

Farnworth was nominated in five out of 12 categories for their hugely successful production of Me and My Girl. For four performances the "House Full" sign went up.

The society won the Best Musical title, director Bernard Smith was named Best Director and Clive Briggs was given the title of Best All Round Performer for his performance as Bill Snibson.

The society's president, Dorothy Thomasson, was nominated for a Best Achievement award and Allen Christey was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Hon Gerald Bolingbroke in the same show. The society plans a special party on June 22 so that all members of the society can take part in the celebrations.

Farnworth's show next year will be Noel Coward's Bitter Sweet and their advice is: "Book early".

Anyone wishing to be included on the mailing list for booking forms should contact the society's secretary on 01204 574369.
