BOLTON detectives intend to tip the scales in favour of the public when they target the burglars who plague the town.
'Operation Scales' is a three-month initiative being set up to battle against thieves who break into homes.
The operation, which starts next week, will concentrate on areas including the town centre, Farnworth and Little Lever.
Its aim is to target house burglars and handlers of stolen goods.
Det Chief Insp Frank Raggett, said: "This is a long term targeting of burglars and those who handle stolen goods. We will be making active efforts to cut it out in the town."
Members of the public are also asked to play their part. People with information about burglars and handlers of stolen goods should contact Bolton Central Police Station's Operation Support Unit on 0161 856 5575 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
