COUNCIL chiefs are set to ban alcohol on the streets near Bolton Wanderers' new Reebok Stadium.
They have been asked by the club to bring in a by-law to ban drinking in the area near the new development at Horwich.
The streets around Burnden Park were included in the Bolton town centre drinks ban.
The club has also asked the council to ban rogue street traders selling unofficial souvenirs.
Both requests will go before the council's planning and environment committee tomorrow.
But council chiefs will be asking the club to make a contribution towards the cost.
Vice chairman Labour Cllr Peter Finch said: "Nobody wants to see gangs of drunken yobs roaming the streets on match days and women pushing prams having to walk past them.
"We also know that there has been a problem in the past with traders selling counterfeit goods."
Councillors will be asked to approve a list of more than 50 streets in Horwich where street trading would be banned.
Alcohol would be banned along Chorley New Road, the Horwich Link Road and Aspinall Street.
The aim is to stop people going into local pubs and then carrying on drinking as they walk to the stadium.
Trading standards chiefs carried out a huge swoop of counterfeit traders before the last match at Burnden Park.
But Cllr Finch warned that the council could not afford to do this on a regular basis.
"We would be looking for a contribution from the club to enforce this."
