SIR: I respond to the letter "Hearing all opinions" (BEN, June 4) under the signature of Bill Collison of Bolton Road, Kearsley. The author states that I do not want a road from the rear of the estate at any cost. If it were feasible, YES, let it go ahead, but one has to listen to government departments and whatever their diktats be.
Regarding the author's claim that 90 per cent of people at the meeting do not want the road, I would estimate the figure to be more 50/50. The author is also not the only one who purports to have the local MP's ear.
If you choose to live on a main trunk route, you will get traffic.
The bulk of the tenants and householders on Springfield and Pilkington Roads had no say in the siting of the estate, all they wish to achieve is for the traffic nuisance to be controlled.
The movement of traffic from Trunk Road to Motorway is subject to wider forums than the issues under discussion here.
I note that Mr. Collison now proposes leaving the issue if it can not be resolved. If he thinks that the residents of Springfield Road & Pilkington Road are going to cave in that easily, then think again,
Let the application move forward through the planning stages, when all objections will be heard, with possibly a final decision by a Department of the Environment Inspector.
