FIREFIGHTERS from Hindley lost pounds in weight to gain pounds in cash for the Macmillan Nurses appeal.
Six firemen walked from their station in Borsdane Avenue, Hindley, to Bolton Central Fire Station in Moor Lane, Bolton, in full uniform and wearing breathing apparatus in sweltering heat.
Station commander Dave Bolton lost 10lbs in weight during the four-and-a-half hour walk and some of his colleagues lost even more.
But thanks to the generosity of people along the route, the firemen netted nearly £800 for the Macmillan Nurses.
Those taking part with Dave were sub officer Phil Yates, leading fireman Pete Johnson and firefighters Bernard Cocklin, Mark Foster and Martin Rowe.
