PLANNERS were due to meet on Tuesday to juggle one of the hottest political potatoes in Chorley - the revamping of Lever Park.
Pressure groups opposed to North West Water's plans to extend the park, restore the terraced gardens and build a visitor centre were hoping the utility received a setback.
Protesters from the Lever Park Action Group handed over a 2,500 signature petition and 100 letters of complaint to Chorley Borough chief executive Jeff Davies in an attempt to sway opinion.
But a report to the planning committee recommended approval of six separate schemes, which would cost a total of £15M.
Meanwhile, the Lever Park Bill, which deals mainly with the extension of the land, is set to come before Parliament again this summer after it was blocked by former Chorley MP Den Dover.
