A BOOZY day at the races turned into a night on the tiles for a Chorley builder who got stuck on a hotel roof.

Reveller Kenny Burns, of Silvester Road, thought he had been locked out when he returned at 3am from a day at Doncaster races with drinking mates from the Black Horse pub on Pall Mall.

The 32-year-old shinned four stories up a drainpipe at the Woodborough Hotel, Carr house Road in the Yorkshire town, believing there would be a skylight for him to climb through.

When he saw there was no skylight he decided not to risk climbing back down and fell asleep on the roof - only to be spotted by security cameras from Doncaster racecourse.

He was rescued by firefighters with a turntable ladder while police trained a searchlight on him.

An unnamed source at the Black Horse said: "What Kenny failed to notice was that the front door of the guesthouse was open all night!"

Kenny was left to foot the bill for damage to the drainpipe, plants and a window frame.
