FURIOUS residents are mounting a campaign against speed freaks who are turning a country lane into a racing track.
Homeowners on Back Lane, Charnock Richard, which joins the A49 Wigan Road, are fed up of cars crashing on the narrow road.
Campaign organiser Kath Robinson claims young drivers are using the road, which has a 60mph speed limit, as if it is the Monte Carlo rally.
She said: "I don't think the council or the police are aware of the number of accidents because they are never reported.
"My sister-in-law got a whiplash injury when someone ran into her car and people's wing-mirrors are knocked all the time.
"Drivers are using the road as a cut-through from Eccleston. We'd like to see passing places and we're asking for it to be made access only."
So far nearly 50 people have signed the petition which will be submitted to county surveyors.
Kath added: "Hopefully they will at least do a traffic survey and we can get something done about this.
"Mostly it's young drivers who think they're in the Monte Carlo rally. It's getting stupid now and if something isn't done soon someone will be killed."
