SIR: Further horrors of the treatment of animals in vivisection laboratories have again been exposed this week. An undercover investigation has revealed that a contract laboratory abused and killed monkeys during product development tests this year.
The investigator filmed technicians suspending monkeys by one arm while pumping them full of the test substances, injecting into their eyelids, shaking their fists in monkeys' faces when they were strapped down for tests and fastening alligator clips to tender body parts. The investigator also saw an autopsy being carried out on a monkey while it was still alive. All the 48 monkeys eventually died.
During the tests, rubber tubes were shoved down the monkeys' noses in order to pump large doses of the substance into each monkey's stomach. The experiments are not only cruel, but they will not give results applicable to humans, since monkeys do not react in the same way as their human counterparts.
For the past three years, Uncaged Campaigns has been leading a consumer boycott against the firm involved and is demanding an end to their animal testing.
Every time animal laboratories are secretly taped, a catalogue of abuse and death is uncovered.
For more information about the consumer boycott and which companies do/do not test on animals, contact: Uncaged Campaigns, 14 Ridgeway Road, Sheffield.
We don't have to pay for animal testing - get the information and go cruelty-free!
