SIR: Well, surprise, surprise, the Raikes Lane incinerator has been given the green light by the councillors.

It was of no surprise that the tip at Horwich would not be passed due to the new Bolton football ground.

We have lived in Breightmet over 25 years. A tip at Hacken Lane was closed down, then replaced by Raikes Lane incinerator.

We have had to put up with all the emissions of dioxins which cause cancer also white ash all over the cars. It was known that until the hospital's incinerator was built, the hospital waste was burned while everybody was asleep.

Do any of the councillors live within a five mile radius of Raikes Lane. You should be concerned for it could be you that dies of cancer. From our house we can see two chimneys which will be throwing out cancer causing dioxins. Let someone else have it for a change.

The sole reason why they want to keep Raikes Lane open is a financial one.We will have no green belt left when they have finished.

The burner will produce enough electricity to supply 7000 homes. What's the use of that at the expense of people's health.

The councillors keep harping on about how much they are going to improve Bolton. Apart from the Town Hall, the building that you can see from anywhere, coming into Bolton as far away as Cheshire, is the Raikes Lane incinerator. What an advert for Bolton.

So let's think again and put this monstrosity in someone else back garden. Don't follow the signs to Bolton, just follow the chimney.
