BOLTON West MP Ruth Kelly is to investigate the possibility of National Lottery funding for plans to rehabilitate Red Moss at Horwich.
Ms Kelly, who has welcomed the proposals put forward by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, said that she will be approaching colleague, Chris Smith, the National Heritage Secretary to see whether she can secure Lottery cash.
Ms Kelly said the proposals, which include promoting the area as an educational resource for local schoolchildren, are "an excellent idea."
She added: "The plans put forward by Lancashire Wildlife Trust must be commended. If successful, Red Moss could be transformed into a great asset for the people of Bolton.
"It would create a place for schools, colleges and universities to study nature and learn about the importance of preserving our local environment."
