COLIN Todd was keeping a cool head today as the summer transfer market showed signs of hotting up.
Britain's top clubs are starting to jockey for position with big-money signings being touted - Blackburn's England wing-back Graeme Le Saux reportedly an Arsenal target and Liverpool poised to move for Inter Milan's Paul Ince and Middlesbrough's Fabrizio Ravanelli.
Wanderers are in the thick of the action and are understood to have lodged a big money bid for a Premiership striker. But Todd doggedly refuses to name his targets and urged supporters to show understanding and patience.
Full-back Neil Cox, signed from Middlesbrough in a £1.5 million deal last month, remains his only new recruit but he has gone on record to say he is targeting other players both at home and abroad.
"Just because there is nothing in the papers suggesting we are chasing particular players doesn't mean nothing is happening," he explained.
"There is a lot of activity going on behind the scenes but I'm having to be patient and supporters have to understand that and have patience themselves.
"I'm different than a lot of managers because I don't reveal my targets in advance. I think that is wrong for a variety of reasons. I think it's unfair, for example, to raise supporters' hopes when deals can break down. Raising hopes and letting people down just leads to frustration."
