SIR: I respond to the letter 'Mmoking ban under fire' (BEN June 11) from E J Mullineux, Bolton.
I, too, have been a season ticket holder for many years and, being a non-smoker, one of the things that I was very happy to hear is that the Reebok Stadium is to be 'non-smoking'. As to his reference that the stadium is open air and therefore will not become smoke-filled, I would like to inform him that I attended the recent England match at Old Trafford, and had the misfortune to sit behind a smoker whose smoke was being blown by the wind directly into my face (in fact I felt like I had smoked the five cigarettes he'd had along with him).
I believe there are to be designated smoking areas for smokers to use beforehand, at half-time, and after the match, and I must add, it is a very sorry person who can't last for 45 minutes without a cigarette!
