ONE hundred and fifty pupils at Sacred Heart RC Primary School in Hindsford, Atherton, will be brought together for the first time in 40 years.

Following the completion of a massive £186,000 project, a new classroom and resource block has been opened on the Lodge Lane site, and the school has said farewell to its original 1870s home in James Street, where the juniors were being taught until last year.

Tomorrow, the school will be re-dedicated by retired priest and former chairman of school governors, Father Dermot O'Donaghue.

A covered walkway connects the new accommodation to the existing building. Other improvements include new children's toilet block, a play area and a new front entrance.

Headteacher Marie Stewart said: "It's wonderful to have the new facilities and this marvellous building. But the biggest advantage is that the whole school community has come together on one site."
