HART Common Golf Club at Westhoughton celebrated its first anniversary with a founder's day weekend.
It was a proud moment for farmer Peter Roberts, who is converting his 160-acre farm into a major golfing complex.
When he started the venture in the spring of 1994, he involved golf architect Michael Shattock from Derbyshire, Bolton chartered accountants Cooper Lancaster Brewers and the Royal Bank of Scotland in Bolton.
Loates Bros, who are specialist course contractors, started work in early 1995 and the driving range opened later in December.
The 18-hole golf course opened for business in June, 1996.
The anniversary competition winner, Mr Peter Lloyd, received a trophy presented by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Mr Roberts has now moved on to the next major phase of the development and work has already started on the construction of a nine-hole, par three course.
Plans for the clubhouse are being finalised and construction is due to start later in the summer.
The course is used by members, golfing societies and newcomers to the game.
