SIR: Churches in Great Lever, Morris Green, Lever Bridge and the Town Centre collected £3,300 in Christian Aid Week - 3.7 per cent up on last year - with a specially good result at St. Bede's, up from £203 to £308. Just a few churches were down a bit.
The total for the town as a whole will not be known for quite a while yet.
The special focus for Christian Aid Week was India, on the 50th anniversary of independence - with the emphasis on creating fair employment, and the rights of children.
For the local churches,
Diana and Gerald Downing.
