INJURY jinxed Nigel Wright will miss Wigan's last game in Australia with a groin injury .

The stand-off, plagued with injuries for the past couple of years, bounced back in style this season and has formed a formidable half-back partnership with fellow Yorkshireman Tony Smith.

But Wright picked up a groin strain against Canterbury and only played yesterday against Brisbane Broncos after having a pain-killing injection.

The move backfired as Wright never matched the form he displayed against the Bulldogs, limping off halfway through the game and will not be risked on Sunday.

Coach Eric Hughes failed to hide his disappointment at his side's 34-0 mauling at the hands of the tournament favourites.

The Warriors never matched the intensity of their first round success over Canterbury Bulldogs when they became the first European side to win a Visa World Club Championship clash.

Hughes said: "We caught the Broncos on a good night but let ourselves down badly. I thought we could have been a lot brighter at times. But you have to come into the cauldron of places like this if you are going to improve and we will.

"We're disappointed but there's no point sulking about it. We'll find ways to get better from this and be ready for Canberra on Sunday. We need to be brighter in the mental department.

"We had a good training session today and watched the video. The lads are down because they feel they underperformed. I was disappointed with the forwards because they didn't lay the platform for the backs to perform."
