SIR: I think the new producer of Coronation Street is totally wrong in changing the format. I am not the only one, who having watched this programme for many years is now considering, like Percy Sugden, switching off.
It is not the sex content issue alone that is undesirable, but now, we are about to have inflicted on us a bunch of yobos - ie. a problem family.
Doesn't this producer realise in making heroes of such children, he is giving young viewers a role model to imitate?
I fear that he is setting this much loved programme on a disaster course, from which it will never recover. The young viewers are not the only ones to be considered, a large adult population prefer 'Coronation Street' as it was before.
It is escapism most of us want, not sleaze. This was once a good family soap. He would do well to keep it so.
