AN intrepid Bolton grandfather is getting stuck into a pioneering project that will form a legacy for future generations of his family.
Retired health boss Tom Turner, 55, is helping his daughter's father-in-law transform an over-grown 55 acre site in North Carolina.
Site owner Ben Southard intends to build a log house and create a nature reserve on the land and then bequeath it to his children, grandchildren and future generations.
During a recent three week long visit to North Carolina, Tom, from Heaton, has been helping Ben get the family orientated project off the ground.
Tom said: "It's a wonderful area, full of wildlife like deer, groundhog and wild turkey.
"I think Ben's idea is marvellous and it's great helping out.
"Ive been over twice now and I can see how things are progressing. I plan to go back again in September."
Tom's daughter Sarah, married American Kent Southard after meeting him in Australia while taking part in the adventure scheme Operation Raleigh. The couple have two children.
Tom added: "Ben is really at one with nature. He's doing this for his family and for their future."
