HALF the 600-strong workforce of the doomed Eagley Mills, which ceases production in a week, have found other jobs. The 300 employees have either been at other work for several weeks or are about to start work, most of them with other local textile companies. EVEN with hundreds of young married people eagerly awaiting new houses, most of us will sympathize with the old vocal cry of a good many old folk who would dearly like some tiny bungalow with a minimum of domestic labour and in nice surroundings.

ON Saturday night an affray which has resulted fatally occurred at Bradley Fold Station. Two men named Herbert Martin, spinner, 54, Poplar-street, Bolton, and James Banks, also a spinner, left this town in the afternoon for the purpose of witnessing a bowling match at the Bowling Green Inn, Bradley Fold, and on going to the station for the purpose of returning to Bolton by the nine o'clock train at night, a quarrel arose between them. Banks struck Martin, and knocked him down, and it is also stated by the crowd that Banks kicked him when so on the ground. Be that as it may, Martin was unable to rise, and was picked up by his friends and removed home, where he was attended by Dr. Dorian. Martin died at five minutes to nine o'clock on Sunday night. An inquest will be held, and Banks is in custody.
