SIR: Councillors have assured local people that Red Moss is 'safe for ever' (BEN June 12) yet the Moss is still designated as a 'strategic waste disposal site' in the Unitary Development Plan and UK Waste have said they may still want to dump waste on the peripheral areas of the Moss.
Bolton Council were very quick to modify the UDP when they thought they could persuade Mr Gummer to allow the supertip proposal to go ahead. If they are now sincere in their desire to protect the site, why do they not put the fears of Councillor Ronson and the people of Horwich at rest by changing the UDP again to remove all possibility of future tipping on the site?
