SIR: I recently visited the Overdale crematorium and was very troubled to find that the memorial stone could not be found. A helpful member of staff eventually said that the stone had probably been stolen or vandalised. Also, the stone was then 25 years old to the day and was due for renewal (at £122.50, I might add), so perhaps it was considered "expendable" in due course.
However, four adjacent stones were missing. But strangely, those remaining were packed close together, and had clearly always been in their present position. So what has happened to the others? And there are stones there almost 40 years old , which I know have never been renewed after 25 years.
