CHILDREN from all over Bolton will be stepping out for charity at the weekend.

Hundreds of youngsters - plus many adults - are set to take part in the "Running to Save Lives" fun run and fun day on Sunday.

Local schools, organisations and associations are taking part in the one-mile run around Leverhulme Park in Bolton.

Runners of all ages are collecting sponsorship money and all cash raised will update and replace vital kidney dialysis equipment at the Joe Jaffe Renal Unit at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury.

The fund-raising team has vowed to raise £30,000 this year to keep pace with technology.

Forms have been handed out at local schools and organisers hope for a bumper turnout on the day.

The fun run starts at noon and there will be a mass of other attractions including a fair, side shows, displays, non-stop entertainment, a Stars in Their Eyes spot and refreshments.

The Saddle Tramps Wild West Show rides into town along with Martini's Mini Circus, the Jaffe-Copter and a licensed bar.

One of the biggest "It's a Knockout" competitions Bolton has ever seen will be a star attraction and includes a team from the Bolton Evening News.

Firms from around the area have entered teams in the huge charity challenge which includes giant inflatables, colourful props and 5,000 gallons of water, all under the guidance of the professional "Knockout 2,000" team.

Radio DJ Paul Hartley will be presenting a roadshow live from Leverhulme Park. Paul, of BBC's GMR station, will be on air between 10am and 5pm.

There will be music, competitions and games during the show.

Blackrod firm Allen plc, who have entered a "Knockout" team, is also providing equipment to put power into the fund-raising event.

One of the company's Speedy Hire Centres in Bolton is supplying scaffolding to keep the stage upright and an electricity generator.

And Volvo dealers Walker Farrimond loaned the fund-raisers a car to travel around town promoting the fun run.
