Westhoughton High School has scooped yet another prize in a national computing competition.

The school is one of 24 national prizewinners in the "Going to School on the Internet" competition which was run jointly by an American computer company Cisco Systems and British suppliers Research Machines.

Head of Information Technology and school webmaster, Mr Martyn Jones, was the driving force behind the Westhoughton school's entry, and the co-ordinated the work of pupils, teachers and office staff to produce the winning formula.

The school had to design an interesting and informative Web Site and submit its plans for using the Internet in school.

The site consists of a variety of pages, from information about the Westhoughton area to school administration and examples of pupils' work.

Each school department has a section and there are hundreds of links to other useful world wide web sites related to school and other subjects.

As part of the "Internet Project" set up in school, pupils have the scope to express their own opinions to a global audience and to send and receive E-mail from anywhere in the world.

The prize consists of £7,000 of computer hardware, software and training services and was presented by the BBC's Jamie Theakstone at the Cafe Internet in London yesterday.
