We're saying farewell to Burnden Park,
Bolton Wanderers' famous ground,
Where all through the historic years,
Both despair and joy were found.
They climbed up from Division Three,
Though it took them several years,
To the dizzy heights of Division One,
Where Man United were their peers.
But the heights proved just too dizzy,
And down they went to stay,
Though some exciting Cup Ties,
Were fought along the way.
At last they reached the Premier League,
Where they "propped it up" all season,
Pundits forecast relegation,
Apparently with good reason.
As First Division leaders,
They've rediscovered winning trends,
And are hopeful of promotion,
When the Burnden era ends.
But as the Wanderers move to Horwich,
Where their future games they'll play,
The spirit of old Burnden Park,
Will go with them on their way. By Sheila Cook
