SIR: In the interest of reducing the speed of traffic on Wigan Road from Fernhill Petrol Station to town, I would like to propose that the 40 mph section, which starts at Hunger Hill and ends at Fernhill Garage, is reduced to 30 mph.
Doing this would help to slow down all traffic, which is often leaving the 40 mph sign doing 50 mph plus.
As there is a bus stop less than 100 yards from the 40 mph sign, and a school crossing about 400 yards further on, it is very dangerous for both older people crossing for the bus and children going to school.
