SIR: We have taken the Bolton Evening News for 48 years, which shows our support for it. However, we feel we must say that the picture of Melinda Messenger, on the front page of Friday evening's edition, was in very poor taste.
We went to visit friends that evening, and each person commented on it - 'disgraceful', 'supposed to be a family paper', 'their standards have really slipped', etc.
You quote the manager of the Jungle Club describing her as 'the best page three girl in the business', and you make her page one.
The fact that she 'was mobbed by fans in Bolton' does not make a semi-nude picture good taste for your front page for all to see, including children.
We hope there will not be any repeats in the future, causing us to cancel the paper.
