To smell the flowers, or new mown hay,
What lovelier scents than these?
And smell of new washed clothing,
Blowing in the breeze.
To see the smile that greets you,
Like a flag unfurled.
Sending its message far and wide,
Brightening up the world.
To hear the ripple of a stream,
The wind tickling the trees.
The songs of birds, a baby's cry,
What sweeter sounds than these.
To taste the pleasure of a kiss from parent,
Friend or lover.
To let you know that people care through fair or
rainy weather.
To touch and hold a dear one's hand and
Gently show each day,
Your hands and theirs will join and guide
Each other on life's way.
Five precious gifts so freely given,
Do we know their worth?
Touch, taste, smell, to see and hear,
What greater riches on earth? By Mrs M Heppenstall,
Ainsworth Square,
Bolton.
