RUTH Kelly is to star in a TV series about women MPs.

A documentary crew is filming the newly-elected Bolton West MP's first few months as a politician.

It is part of a series about Westminster Women to be broadcast early next year. Ms Kelly is one of six backbench MPs asked to take part in the ITV series which will include changes made to cope with the massive influx of women into the Commons after the last election.

The documentary will also highlight the work of the six MPs in their constituencies and last weekend Ms Kelly was filmed returning to Bolton for the first time since the birth of her baby a few weeks ago.

The cameras were rolling as the MP met constituents during surgeries in Horwich and Bolton town hall. And they filmed as husband Derek helped his wife juggle the demands of baby Eamonn and work.

A Labour spokesman said all Tony Blair's new female MPs were under the spotlight but the Bolton MP was considered doubly interesting because she had just become a mum.

He said: "There has been a lot of national media interest in Ruth since she has been elected."
