A YOUNG girl was hurt when a garden wall fell as she played on a Kearsley housing estate. The incident yesterday comes only six months after six-year-old Anthony Chambers was killed when a garden wall collapsed at the side of his council home in Breightmet.
An investigation was mounted by Bolton Council after Anthony's death. Only days earlier the wall had been declared safe by a council inspector. Yesterday Becky McIntyre, four, of Mossfield Road, was playing with friends on a neighbour's garden wall when concrete blocks fell on her. Her mother Sylvia believes that Becky and two friends had crawled on the wall.
She said: "It began to wobble and so they jumped off. But a little boy climbed back on and it fell on Becky. She's very lucky."
Becky was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment. The house, where the wall collapsed, is now privately owned.
Today the mother of Anthony Chambers renewed her calls for checks on garden walls.
Michaela Chambers said: "I would advise everybody to check their walls. If I'd had the option I would've paid privately for a survey. I would not like any other parents to go through the heartbreak we have had to endure."
