A RAMSHACKLE barn on the edge of Bolton could soon be the luxury home of soccer star Gary Neville.

Planning permission has been given for the conversion of Meadow Barn, off Bradshaw Road, Bradshaw into a house and for a tennis court to be built on the land.

The Manchester United and England player will be the second reds' star to move to the Bolton area.

Welsh ace Ryan Giggs has bought a £500,000 mansion on the Blackrod and Adlington border.

For Gary Neville, a new home at Bradshaw will be a short hop from Greenmount, Bury where the defender was brought up and where his parents still live.

Despite the soccer stardom of sons Gary and Phil, the Nevilles have stayed a close knit family.

There had been Sunday newspaper speculation that Gary had bought a £1 million 34-acre estate at Bolton.

A Bolton Council insider said: "I understand this is his house."

The BEN spoke to Hallam Design Partnership in Bury who have been handling the planning application.

A spokesman said: "We cannot comment. There is a lot of sensitivity about this."

There have been a number of plans to convert Meadow Barn over the years. The most ambitious was a £5 million hotel and leisure complex, but that failed to get off the ground.
