SIR: I see (BEN, June 15) that Mr Gary Titley (MEP) says like many others that existing wartime landmines should be found and destroyed. Commendable, but when is he volunteering to help do it?
In BEN (March 13, he was reported trying to soothe a Bolton textile manager over the loss caused by an edict from his EU Brussels bureaucrat pals.
Due to them 'protecting' some very small European textile firms by putting an 'anti-dumping' levy on 'grey' cloth (ie unprocessed) from India/Far East, it caused a 42 per cent import cloth price increase, which harmed British textile trade.
Later, the Asian exporters found due to the levy they could afford to 'process' - bleach, dye, print, etc and make up - garments ready to sell in the EU causing our textile trade immense harm and lay-offs. A typical EU blunder! Could this report be wrong?
Let's hear some genuine good news from the EU, Mr Titley, for a change.
