A HIJACKER baled out of a seized Boeing 727 clutching 502,400 dollars (£193,200) ransom today and police believe he may have been smashed to death against the jet's fuselage. Some of the money and part of his clothing were found adhering to the plane when it landed in Chicago after he made his escape jump near Kokomo, Indiana.

From the Evening News, June 25, 1872

A TERRIFIC thunderstorm passed over Bolton and neighbourhood on Monday afternoon between four and five o'clock. The peals of thunder were deafening, accompanied by exceedingly vivid flashes of lightning, succeeded by torrents of rain, which continued to fall for about a couple of hours. At Great Lever, just outside the boundary, the electric fluid struck the chimney of the Mill, belonging to Messrs John Harwood and Son. The mill is sixteen windows in length, and contains 40,000 spindles, employing 230 hands. The lightning conductor on the chimney was twisted into a zigzag shape, and several of the large coping stones were knocked off. The electric fluid appears to have entered the carding room, where it set fire to several of the frames, and the flames raged for fifteen or twenty minutes. The damage is estimated at about £300, which is covered by insurance in the Sun, West of England, Royal, Commercial, Union and Alliance offices.
