DETECTIVES searching for missing schoolboy Jamie Lavis were this morning scouring a country park following a tip-off he could be buried in a shallow grave.

More than 100 officers, dog teams, an underwater search unit and the force helicopter moved in on Boggart Hole Clough, Blackley for one of the biggest search operations ever carried out by Greater Manchester Police.

Det Ch Insp Ken Seddon today admitted that hopes of finding eight-year-old Jamie alive were now very remote.

He disappeared from his Openshaw home on May 5. Earlier this week young Bolton actor Nathan Humphries played Jamie in a TV reconstruction of his last known movements.

DCI Seddon said: "Sadly we now fear the worst for Jamie. We are treating his disappearance in the same way we would a murder inquiry and have received fresh information which suggests his body could be in a shallow grave."
