THE children of Chernobyl come to Walkden on Tuesday for a breath of fresh air. A group of Belarus children, aged from seven-to-12, will visit Walkden's Blackleach Country Park as part of a month-long visit to the UK.
They'll spend the day at the Salford City Council-run park making badges and kites, pond dipping and exploring with youngsters from nearby North Walkden Primary School.
All the Chernobyl children have been affected by the nuclear power station disaster 10 years ago. Their visit has been organised by the Bolton-based 'Friends of Chernobyl's Children'.
Blackleach warden, Annie Surtees, said: "This is the second time we'll have been visited by a group from Chernobyl. The day is designed to help boost their immune systems with plenty of fresh air."
